I just wanted to drop a huuuuge kudos for the beautiful flyer design by the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery at Haverford. I love it, and I’m looking forward to the tailgate tonight. Perhaps this begins a new trend of tailgating lectures on college campuses?
The final details of my contribution are being worked out, but I’m thrilled to have been invited to execute a project for And the Winner Is…, a school-wide single elimination skeeball tournament at the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery at Haverford College. The response on campus has been amazing… kudos to the curators John Muse & Matthew Callinan for putting together setting in motion such a fun and challenging exhibition. Below is my contribution, as blurbed with the Haverford Crew:
Black Tie Tailgate hosted by artist Jong Kyu.
Join artist Jong Kyu (aka Dave) for a black tie tailgate party for Versus: an interdisciplinary conversation about competition. A variety of classic tailgate foods will be served in four courses, each delivered in round skeeball form. Tailgaters are also encouraged to compete amongst the cornhole, washers, and giant jenga boards that will be set up for the evening. Recommended dress is Creative Black Tie Optional; modern and trendy interpretations of formal wear as well as Casual After Five dress is also welcome, but not required.
In short: dress up, eat, play skeeball, play cornhole, and get pumped for the discussion.
I’m excited to be doing two speaking events this week. On Thursday I will be at University of Penn’s Rodin House speaking on what it’s like to split an arts practice with an arts job. On Friday, I will be doing a studio visit with Moore College of Art seniors. I’m excited for both of these events, because my work is not the type to really get bought and sold, so speaking events will be vital for me to sustain my practice. They’re not open to all, but let me know what’s up if you are trying to get in.
My work was selected for the upcoming exhibition Other Possible Titles, opening this Friday November 4th at the Grizzly Grizzly Gallery. I’m one a half-day away from work drop-off, and I’m still not sure what I want to show. Yikes. Anyways, viewers are welcome to vote for their favorite piece, and that artist will receive a solo exhibition in the 2012 season. So be sure to stop by, look around, and vote for that which floats your boat!
